In this installment Chef Joe and I are joined by our special guest, Chef Patrick O’Cain of Gàn Shān Station, who is tall, handsome, knows how to cook, and speaks French. Swoon. We are also joined by Lucy Murphy from The Asheville Independent Restaurant Association, and her little friend, Daisy, who both help us deliver the local food news!

At the end of he show, Joe and I rattle-off about a dozen or so places that we’ve eaten at since the last show, and I “accidentally” call Joe’s restaurant “Chestnut’s,” which he hates, so then I call it “Joesnuts.” He made a face like this: -_-

Restaurants and other entities we mentioned include: MANNA FoodBank, Mast General Store, Malaprop’s Bookstore/Cafe, Biltmore, The Real Food Truck, Waking Life Espresso, Izzys Coffee Den, Favillas New York Pizza, Tiger Mountain, Lexington Corner Market, Bhramari Brewhouse, The Hop Ice Cream Cafe, Urban Orchard Cider Company and Bar, Blue Dream Curry House, Firestorm Books & Coffee, Catawba Brewing Co., Bon Appétit Magazine, Smoke Signals Baking, French Broad Chocolates, Brother Wolf Animal Rescue‘s Cat Cafe, McCrady’s Restaurant, XBB, Rockys Hot Chicken Shack, Rankin Vault Cocktail Lounge, The Barleycorn, Posana, The Lobster Trap, Karen Donatelli Cake Designs, Cúrate, Chai Pani, Chupacabra Latin Cafe, Sky Lanes Asheville, Mela Indian Restaurant, and Local Provisions.

I made a couple of musical recommendations during the show, one to Chef Patrick as a possible alternative to the super-boring “Frankie Vally Radio” that they sometimes tune-in at Gan Shan, called “Rock and Soul Ichiban,” the other was Hüsker Dü’s How to Skin a Cat.

— END —

Thanks to: Chestnut, The Corner Kitchen, Corner Kitchen Catering, Buffalo Nickel, Blue Ridge Restaurant Equipment, Aloft Asheville Downtown for supporting the show, and to our producer Matt ZaPow studios for recording the show, and WPVM 103.7 The Voice for rebroadcasting the show at 5pm every Thursday. Thanks as well to the Derita Sisters for letting us use their song, Cheese Wagon as our theme.
