Here’s a good one of Joe actively hating the Food News Music!

Hello Asheville!

Yeah, Man! “Our Cheesiest Show Ever” has been recorded and uploaded and is now available for listening to!

It is a REALLY fun show! Joe and Lucy and I have a lot of laughs together, and we impart a LOT of Food News about up-coming food events, and the spring Farmers Markets, some of which have started up already, and some that are about to start up.

The Food News starts at 10 mins in. We talk about or mention: Root Down food truck, Food Truck Showdown, Dynamite Roasting Company, Oskar Blues Brewery North Carolina, Asheville Bread Festival, Carolina Mountain Cheese Fest, The Spring Herb Festival, The Ramps Festival, Navitat Canopy Adventures Service Industry Free Days, The Odditorium, Pasties & Pastries: Easy-Bake Bake Off!, Asheville Wine & Food Festival (Elixir, Sweet, The Grand Tasting), Asheville VegFest: A Celebration of Vegan Food and Drink!, Mr. Bob’s Do-Nuts (Donut Festival), LEAF Community Arts, Liver Mush Festival, Blue Ridge BBQ and Music Festival, Asheville VeganFest, Spruce Pine BBQ and Bluegrass, and Organic Fest Asheville.

Lucy is aghast that I’m doing the intro with my mouth full of pakoras from Chai Pani.

At the 28 minute mark we begin the interview with Katie Moore of the The Cheese Store of Asheville, and Cheese Maker and affineur Victor Chiarizia from Blue Ridge Mountain Creamery! We talk about, you guessed CHEEEEESE! Katie is the executive director of the WNC Cheese Trail and one of the directors of the Carolina Mountain Cheese Fest! She is also a budding cheese maker / affineur, and Victor is also an accomplished artistic glass blower! They’re both good on the radio, and we had a really nice conversation!

L-R: Katie Moore and Victor Chiarizia from the Carolina Mountain Cheese Festival and NC Cheese Trail wait patiently for their guest spot.

At the 50 minute mark, Joe and I have a conversation about the tipping / no tipping issue, one of our favorite topics, on and off the show. Joe is a heartless capitalist / bleeding heart liberal, so his views are complicated. My point of view as a customer is simple: If every restaurant in town raised their prices by 20% and got rid of tipping tomorrow, I would save money. I also feel a certain amount of minor resentment that someone else’s employee’s hourly wage — that person’s means to pay their bills and feed themselves — is left up to me. That’s more responsibility than I want with my lunch. Joe and I agree, there is a basic inequity between the hourly wages of the front and the back of the house. We want to keep this conversation going, and we welcome your feedback!
